Mosquitoes Bring A New Threat To Florida Homeowners

In a recent PCT online article, the University of Florida stated that there has been at least one confirmed human case of Keystone virus in Florida. This virus appears to be transmitted by mosquitoes that have obtained the virus from infected animals. This virus was discovered in 1964 and had been found only in animals up to this point. This new awareness of yet another disease from mosquitoes only increases the importance of mosquito control in Florida where weather conditions allow for mosquito activity nearly all year long.
In Florida, mosquito season can start any time between February to March and typically begins winding down in October. During this time, mosquitoes will breed rapidly and become especially problematic. Though mosquitoes are annoying pests, they are also dangerous as they can carry and transmit illnesses such as West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, chikungunya fever, dengue fever, malaria, yellow fever, and now, Keystone virus. The symptoms of these mosquito-borne diseases can range from mild to severe and often include fever, body aches, stiffness, headache, nausea, and joint pain.
